When installing continuous hinges, all of the hardware on the door (door closer, old short hinges, etc.) are removed and the door is removed from the frame. Afterwards, the continuous hinge is typically installed on the frame first and then the door is properly realigned and screwed back on. The most common continuous hinge length is 83″ and corresponds to commercial doors, which are usually 7ft or 84″ tall. However, if the door is slightly shorter than the standard height, the continuous hinge can be cut to match this height without affecting its stability.
